Kinda disappointing, but not at all surprising. Figured it was probably something like that.

Haha, amazing. I hope we somehow get to the bottom of how this happened. Is the guy who writes the Tivo info a big Weird Al fan and when he saw Al Joins the Monkees he just subconsciously thought of... Al?

That is what's so weird about this. 9 times out of 10, NBC sends the Today info on Thursday nights (which they did this past week) so the same person usually does it every week because she works nights. She's become a Weird Al fan in the last year or so (thanks to me), but she took Thursday off so she wasn't there. The guy who covers for her when she's off would have written it. I've never heard him say anything about Weird Al so as far as I know he's not a fan. The only other thing is NBC may have sent something about that segment earlier than Thursday (especially if it's part of their Summer Concert Series, but that usually airs on Fridays, 8/4 is a Thursday), but I texted her and she said she doesn't remember writing that.

When I get into the office tomorrow, I'll be able to see who wrote it and when but I have to assume it was the guy who was covering on Thursday.

It's what I thought. The guy who was covering on Thursday wrote that.

Did you ever find out WHY he accidentally wrote "Weird Al Yankovic"? (If it was, indeed, an accident?) Did being surrounded by hardcore Weird Al fans at work all day warp his brain for the better?

I never asked him. Probably one of those instances where your fingers don't type what your brain is thinking.
