I am stunned and sad at the same time. I didn't expect to hear that.

Really? I had the exact opposite reaction. Definitely did not expect Pentiums to last 11 years after it was first written.

I could have sworn that he did do virus alert on the last tour. Maybe I'm mistaken, though. I would love it if he would do a full album cover to cover during the tour like Weird Al or In 3D.

No, no Virus Alert last tour. It's definitely one of those songs that is just too complicated to do in concert.

Interesting about Pentiums. Figured that would be one that was close to the chopping block, since it really is kind of dated, but cool to have early confirmation. Only a few more weeks to find out what all we will exactly get for this tour.

Also, Al keeps on talking about 3 months...so it looks like this tour will go through mid-September. A few more dates to be added, as well. Hopefully they'll be somewhere close. I'd love to be able to see this tour in person...oh... :lookaround:

We'll see. I bet he will do it this year. He always seems to do one song off of the last album that was not played on the previous tour. VA would be the obvious choice for that slot this year.

How is it too complex to do in concert? It doesn't seem any more complex than, say, Dog Eat Dog.

I mean, it's not like it's Pancreas or anything.

Too complex to play live = too difficult, or too sampled

WAN was borderline, but he HAD to play it since it was the single. Virus Alert has a lot of parts that they won't be able to produce live, for one. If 80% of it is sampled and played as a track... that doesn't make for an interesting live song, now does it? It's also quite wordy and fast... making it very difficult to sing live (well). Try singing that song out loud with choreography among 2 hours of other music... for 3 months.

Well, maybe, too complex was the wrong phrase to use. It definitely didn't have the thousands of overlapping tracks and complexity that Pancreas did. It just seems to me like the range and context of the whole song would be too much to do each night. Kristine makes excellent points.

Although, since Pancreas isn't going to be performed, Don't Download This Song, would be left as the other option. And I just see it as being kind of unrealistic to be performed in concert...although, I can imagine him leading the crowd in the chorus...to kind of a Cell Phones like response.

I don't know...I've learned with Albuquerque and many other performances to never say something wouldn't fit Al...that's why I am so addicted to the concerts, because of the level he brings the shows to...so you all may very well be right. To be honest, I'd love to see Virus Alert be performed...so I'm hoping you are.

I hope he doesn't feel like he *has* to continue that pattern. He could just, you know, play a different song. But if he does play an original from SOL that hasn't been played live yet, VA is the one he will pick.
