For a summer tour, some individual venues might start leaking dates in February, but you probably won't see anything official on weirdal.com until about March or so. And there will be maybe about one update a week or so adding new dates. Once dates are posted, they usually don't change, though there will be a handful of venue changes and cancellations.
The first couple sets of dates they post should start to give you a rough idea of where they will be when. They do about 5-6 shows a week, and travel by bus, so while the itinerary might appear random, there is a pattern to it. They rarely travel more than 2-8 hours away a night.
If you're looking to hit more than 1 show, look for dates in the New York/New Jersey/Pennsylvania area, or the Illinois/Ohio/Michigan area, or California, as those are the areas you can easily hit several shows in a row with very little travel between shows.

Thanks, Dave! I'm probably going to go for the NY area, but it all depends on the dates, and how much time I can get off from work

Well an old friend of mine has muscular dystrophy. Her parents are pretty strict about out of state trips without them and they had no interest in buying tickets for themselves. She couldn't go to the Foxwoods performance.TMBJon @ September 12, 2009 08:01 pm wrote: is there really much of a worry whether Al is going to come to play somewhere near enough to you worth driving?

Also, having a closer show helps me plan an ambitious big group gathering of friends which is easier than a show at Connecticut or Massachusetts right now. But that's me personally.
