I'm almost afraid to say this...because the song is wonderful. The band, Al's vocals, the melodies... However could anyone else agree that Al could enunciate a tad better? Notably on words like guide, ride, name, and same? the Speed the Plow line and IMDB lines could use it a tad bit as well.

Generally one of the things my chorus had to improve on before a big competition was to enunciate the endings of words or sentences. Its often in our language and society we emphasize the beginning while the end just trails off a bit.

Oh, and *no* that doesn't reflect badly on Al as a performer. Nothing is perfect in this world.

Hmm, I didn't seem to have a problem understanding any of those words. I think he did fine as far as enunciation.

I understood them enough, don't get me wrong. Its only after I learned all the lyrics that I felt the endings trail off. Hopefully its only me.

Didn't see any problem with that.

I think that it is definitely a combination of both Weezer and Fountains of Wayne. I'm a fan of both of those groups, although more of a fan of a larger number of Weezer songs...while "Stacy's Mom" beats all of those out. However, I definitely see the song is more in the style of Fountains of Wayne songs. But, blatant styles are definitely the beginning of "Island In The Sun" and the guitar riff is definitely from "Pork and Beans". I agree that I can't really see much similarity between other Weezer songs.

This song is definitely not "funny". I laughed more on the first listen due to our discussion of it possibly being about the Jungle Cruise, and it actually ending up being about the Jungle Cruise with the transfer in the first part of the song.

Also, I agree that Al is definitely writing the songs that he wants to now. I feel that after the HUGE success of "White & Nerdy", Al felt success. I think he wanted another Top 10 huge hit again. Now that he has that, he is going to the different styles of songs that he has always originally wanted to do. I LOVE the songs that Al creates with the underlying meanings, I would definitely put this in the same category as a lot of the stuff on the In 3D album. As well as, the songs we have stated with "Good Old Days", "Melanie", and "Airline Amy". These are the songs that truly make Al shine brighter in his singing ability, as well as, the band's extraordinary talent in being able to do anything...and make Al's part come out even better than could be expected.

This song is the reason why I love Al.

You know, I tried to listen for it, and it doesn't sound that bad to me. As long as is not severely noticeable, it's not really that important in this case. I mean, there's a difference between a choir where there's only 20 of you with no microphones, and a professionally recorded voice track.

I don't compete, but I know what you're talking about. Our director is always "Exagerate and enunciate! It'll sound ridiculous to you, but the guy in the last row will understand what you're singing!". Like I said, it's always a good thing to improve upon, but not that relevant in Al's case.

Even so, I'm like a mama goose proud of how good Al's singing technique has become these days, especially when compared to his first...oh... three or four albums? Yikes!

I'm glad I'm the only one who felt so, and even when I heard it that way...it was not terrible rather a tiny detail to "observe" rather than make a deal out of. Thanks for the input!

I'm immensely proud of his vocals especially on tour comparing....how can I make a comparison without advocating Hooliganism....Straight Outta Lynwood tour and the recording from Wolfgang's Vault.

BTW, excellent review, Greg.

I'll confess that I own the Lonely Island CD, but "Dick in a Box," "I'm on a Boat," "Jizz in My Pants," etc. are downright clever and intelligent compared to the majority of it. One track is literally a dance beat where they repeat "I'm on schrooms!" over and over. It's disappointing that that passes for comedy music these days, but fortunately Al holds himself to a higher standard (as do his fans).

I was convinced Lonely Island would be really special judging by their biggest singles...but their latest collaboration with Justin Timberlake as well as their lesser known songs are disappointing.
