I came across a blog that said there's also a big sand sculpture of Al and his brain. Have to keep an eye out for that one.

A group of artists do a sand sculpture near the main (blue) gate every year, usually pertaining to that year's theme. Last year, "Say Cheese", had a bunch of cheese, a big camera with a mouse popping out of it, and other mice in various locations. They only start the sculpture a short time before the fair opens, so they are there working on it nearly the whole time the fair is open. It's cool to go see it at the beginning and then see it all finished a few days before the fair closes.

There is a sculpture out in front of the Al's brain exhibit. It's still too early in the sculting process to depict what it will be. I had thought it would be an Al sculpture. There was one during the Al Experience, so it seems reasonable that there would be one this time.

As Cid mentioned, I was there yesterday. And though I couldn't make it to the big fancy premiere party the previous night, I DID make it there early enough to be present at the very first public showing of the day, which also happened to be the first public showing ever.

And as a special treat for the first public audience, AL himself appeared in person to introduce it.

At first, we hear just his voice. It's his deep "announcer" voice - more or less the Uncle Muscles voice. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the first-ever public screening of 'Al's Brain: A 3-D Journey Through the Human Mind with "Weird Al" Yankovic.'" Then he emerges from behind the front curtain and continues: "Unfortunately, 'Weird Al' Yankovic couldn't be here in person today. In fact, the only reason he MADE 'Al's Brain' in the first place is so he wouldn't have to appear at the O.C. Fair. He's kind of a jerk that way. But Mr. Yankovic wanted me to tell you that there is no recording of any kind, no flash photography, and TURN OFF YOUR FREAKING CELL PHONES. Now sit back and enjoy the magnificent splendor of AL'S BRAIN!" The crowd went nuts.

I saw it last night and I'm looking forward to seeing it again. Saw a couple of faces in it that I didn't expect (one of which I SHOULD have expected, knowing how Al likes to recruit friends into his projects). I was there about 10:30 at night (also known as Past Your Bedtime), and it was still getting good viewership, so I guess it doesn't skew TOO young. As it happened, I was sitting next to a kid (despite it being Past His Bedtime), and he walked out at the end wanting to know more about neurons.

It's nice to read such nice comments about Al's Brain. That'll teach all those whiners not to complain about farm animals and bake-offs. I mean, come on, you can go to any small-town county fair for that stuff. Also, anytime these people want, they can see those farm animals for free, right? Anyway, thanks for posting those links, Helen.
