Ohh, and here is a link to a post Dave made, with a link to that elusive interview Louise and I were talking about. I can't get the video to play, but if you read all the comments about that interview, you can get an idea of what Al said. So, any party foods may have dairy in them, including the cake *which it would be an honor to make*.
Thanks for locating that Patti. It's worth a second look that one, isn't it?

I've been thinking a lot about this whole party thing. I think if we do it, we should all get him little gifts, and then all of us can pitch in to get something really big for him. And maybe we shouldn't play his music since it's his birthday party. We should play all the music he likes to listen to. He probably doesn't want to hear himself singing the whole time.

As much as we all would LOVE to listen to his music the whole time, it's not for us, it's for Al!

Aww, so me making the cake is out? Why? I could make an accordion shaped cake. Heck, that's what I wanna make for Al when I see him in July. I could hold off, though.

That'd be my dream. Plus, it wouldn't cost you anything. I've been decorating cakes since I was 17. That's 30 years.

But, if you think it's more feasible to have somebody who would most definitely charge you an arm and a leg, go ahead.

hehe, yeah, fat chance. Duff is really good, and far more creative.

I just kinda thought it would be cool to make a birthday cake for Al, especially on his 50th birthday. I do have some ideas for an accordion cake already. The main problem is, if this party is far away, I'm not sure how I'd transport it, in case I couldn't come.

Awww, Patti, I wasn't shutting you down at all and I'm really sorry if that's what I meant. I only gave that idea because it is hard work and I wouldn't want to put it all on you. Not just making and designing it, but delivery is also a pain. I'm sure your cake would be better because you, like all of us, know Al far more than they do and its more special when a true fan makes something for Al. :)

Thanks, Meli. Of course, I dream of making a birthday cake for Nina, too, and the possibility of doing that is even more slim...

I don't mind making cakes. I don't get to so much any more, but it is the one truly creative food-related thing I've done the longest. It would never be a burden to make a cake for Al. It's transporting it that would be the problem, but I would jump at the chance to do this.

I would love to see your creation and we could all chip in on ingredients and some transportation ways too. Renting a van is always a possibility for more room. :)
