Al Dissed/mentioned In Maxim

Al's mentioned in the April issue of Maxim twice. The first is a little piece on the Tim and Eric show coming to dvd, and they interview different celebs about it, including Jonah Hill (of Superbad), David Cross and Weird Al, all of whom praise the show.

Later in the magazine, it's a full story on that Flight of the Conchords show. During the article, Daryl Hall (of Hall and Oates fame), gets interviewed, as he apparently cameoed on the show (which I"ve never watched.) He praises them, and says that "They've taken musical parody to a whole new level. What they do is really intelligent and funny. They're not like 'Weird Al' Yankovic. What he does is bull****. What they do is music."

No offense to those guys, as I've never actually heard anything they've done, but um, I don't know anybody who listens to them. I liked Daryl until that quote.

I'm surprised at Daryl's quote, since Al used the Hall & Oates song "Method of Modern Love" in "Hooked On Polkas". What happened to Daryl's sense of humor?

That's what I was thinking.

I realize not everyone is an Al fan, but I read that and was like, "What'd he do to you?"

My only response is that Daryl Hall has never
1) Been to a Weird Al concert or
2) Listened to an entire Weird Al album.

His conclusion is pretty untenable if you've done either or both of those things. I just hope that none of TBITB read Maxim this month.

I guess everyones entitled to their opinions, but thats unjustified. I mean, man, at least give a REASON why he thinks Al does bulls**t.

I mean, if he said 'I don't think the writings that good' or 'He just doesn't amuse me' or even 'I dont like his hair', I'd be ok. But hes just being dismissive.

I know, its a rant, but I hate morons.

EDIT: Ok, if he's been around as long a Al, fair play. I've never heard of him and I thought he'd just turned up outta the blue and insulted Al.

Well, to be fair, Darryl has been around about as long as Al, and I know who he is. What he said about Al was kinda harsh, if you ask me. I will say I haven't heard anything new from Mr. Hall in a while, yet Al is still going strong. Like others have said, he should site a reason why he thinks what Al does is bull****.

I think Mr. Hall spends too much time on limewire, and doesn't listen to any of Al's REAL stuff.

The same thing that happened to John Oates mustache... It disappeared into nothingness.
