I think a big reason why Lehrer remains popular is that, unlike other musical satirists like Allan Sherman and 'Weird Al' Yankovic, Lehrer's songs are based on original melodies
Isn't The Elements Song based on the Major General's Song from Pirates of Penzance?

Touche. Also, Clementine was the same lyrics, he just changed the tune.

I wanna work someplace where Weird Al comes to visit!
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

Weird Al is the exact opposite of the stereotypical celebrity. Very humble, no ego at all, cheerful, just a really nice guy.
We coulda told him that
Man, I
love reading things like that about Al. There really aren't a lot of celebrities who would be that nice during their time off, especially just coming off a tour. It's always so nice when someone meets Al and realizes just how nice he is.
mind=blown

That would be so awesome for Al to drop by. I would be happy if that happened.

When I told him that my kids know all the words to "Albuquerque" (all 11:22 minutes of it), he assumed a sorrowful face, hung his head and said "I'm so sorry."
That sounds kinda like something that he'd do.
