I like to get the setlist ahead of time since I'm a photographer. I need to plan on where I will be switching equipment out (long to short lens for in-audience songs, for example). A good shoot requires careful planning and timing. I will probably be carrying 3 or 4 different lenses, a couple filters (polarizer, star, and maybe a doubler or wide converter), a tripod or monopod, etc. Because it's all in the dark, I have to plan ahead so I'm not burrowing through my bag for something and miss a shot.

Do you have to get permission to bring your camera equipment in? Just curious...what you're talking about seems a little more complex than a disposable camera.

It depends on the venue. OC Fair allows photo equipment, but not video equipment or anything with lights. At most fairs, you can bring in backpacks and bags (since most people carry those around the fair anyways). All my equipment, with the exception of my tripod, fit in a camera backpack.

I'll definitely look at the setlist beforehand. Like Jeremy said, it helps me to avoid any disappointment that certain songs aren't played, and I like to know what to look forward to. I find that I'm less distracted if I know what songs are coming up. Otherwise, I find my mind wandering during the concert as I'm wondering what song he'll sing next.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

I personally don't like to know what the artist is going to play when I go to concerts. I feel it adds something to the excitement when I don't know what's being played next. Of course, it makes me scream my head off when I don't know what's playing next and a song comes on I adore... Yeah, I'm still too fangirly... :P

I don't know how I can possibly visit this board for months while everyone else knows the entire setlist as well as the new concert-only songs. Seems pretty unlikely, especially since there are no tour dates listed yet that I plan to attend.

I would think if you stayed out of the Touring and Live Appearances and the Music and Record forums that you'd be okay. I have no problem using spoiler tags for any concert info, but I'm not sure if that trend would catch on.
