I guess he thought he learned something from that horrible piece of trash he directed, The Passion Of The Christ.

Also, you don't have to use the "n" word to be a racist. Conversely, you don't have to be a racist if you use the "n" word.

Agreed on both accounts.

The audience laughter was a little strange at first, and yeah if one didn't know what was going on it could have seemed like a surreal bit of some sort...or someone just could have thought he was comically understating the situation.

Regardless, I did like Jerry's aside to the crowd: "Stop laughing. This isn't funny."

I think this is starting to get a little off topic now. The purpose of this topic is for quick updates on Al's pals, a little discussion maybe, and move on. If you want to continue discussion on the subject, there are are more appropriate places to discuss it than a Weird Al forum.

Once again, every time we get on a topic we can actually discuss and come to terms with, someone always wants to scream off topic. A lot of hard core UHF and Michael Richards fans are trying to come to grips with this. It was a hard thing to see by a lot of us. I don't think it's hurting anything to talk about it here. However bro, if this goes on several more days then I guess it's ok to end it then. But give people some time, dude. Geez.

maybe this discussion could be serperated into it's own topic, then in a few more days it could be locked?

Yeah, I think a lot of us Al fans also happen to be huge fans of Michael Richards as well, because of his hilarious performance in UHF. To us, he's Stanley Spudowski, and to see "Stanley" lose it in this way is unsettling and disappointing to many of us, to say the least. It's natural that we would want to talk about it a little bit.

I mean, if (and this is a HUGE hypothetical!) Bermuda had gone off on this kind of rant and Al wasn't anywhere near him at the time, would it be "off-topic" to want to discuss it? I think that, to a lesser degree, Michael Richards is as linked to Al as much as Bermuda is in the minds of the fans. This is a huge news story right now. I don't think it's off-topic to want to discuss it. Sure, we might want to move it into a different, specific topic like Emily suggested, but I think it should be fair game to talk about.

It isn't off topic. This thread is to discuss news about people that are in direct relation with Al.

to add to the discussion:
This will all be old news soon. It's not as if Michael Richards has had any type of successful career since Seinfeld anyway. (and that ended, what, like 8 or 9 years ago). It can't hurt his career is he has no career.

I agree. However, when Elvis posted that, discussion was sort of at a stand still anyway. But, if someone wants to come in and discuss it or give opinions on it, that shouldn't be a problem. After all, this whole thread is off-topic, really, not just what's been going on for the past 2 pages or so.

EDIT: and it can and may hurt his career, because his career after Seinfeld has primarily been stand-up comedy.

It has already gone on for several days and there is at least two pages of discussion about it already. Why is your arbritary deadline of "several more days" any different than my arbitrary deadline of 'let's start wrapping it up now'? I am not concerned with the discussion about the incident or how Michael Richards is handling it. That fits within the scope of this topic. But when the conversation turns to discussion about Mel Gibson, and this comedian does/says this, and this makes you a racist and this doesn't, as it has, then it's time to end that aspect of the conversation. At that point, it should be taken the World Of Stand-Up Comedy Forum where it belongs. Michael Richards made the comments, not Stanley Spadowski (or Kramer). Not sure what part of "World of "Weird Al" Yankovic Forum" is confusing you, bro, but I'll bold it for emphasis, dude. Geez

I didn't say it was off topic. I said it was starting to get a little off topic. Someone brought the incident up in this topic. People were given chance to react to it, and I don't have a problem with that at all. And people still have the opportunity to react to it here. It's the conversation that was going in several posts before mine that is starting to get off topic and needs to be continued elsewhere, or brought back on topic.

I 100% agree. But I also think this topic is a nice compromise rather than stopping all discussion about Al's Pals entirely.
