Definitely. Three years ago, who knew who James Blunt, Chamillionaire, or Taylor Hicks were? Pretty much no one. I bet at least half (or more) of the parodies will be as-of-then new artists with a smash hit on their hands, as well as some well-established acts.Kevbo1987 @ Sep 27 2006, 06:14 PM wrote: Now, for speculation, it is difficult to speculate about this now, but I agree with Jeremy that at least one of the artists that will be parodied probably isn't even a blip on the radar right now.

It's way too early to even think about it in my book. The way that technology is changing as far as the music industry. Who knows if there will even be a 13th album. Not to say that Al won't do one, but when Poodle Hat came out, only three years ago. iTunes and P2P were around, but not nearly as popular as they are today. When I went after work yesterday to pick up the new CD, I had to drive all over town to track it down. I live outside of Los Angeles and none of the normal CD carrying stores such as Target had it. In fact, our only big music store Sam Goody closed down completely a few months ago because of lack of CD sales. CD's are gradually being phased out do to digital downloads. I like all of the added bonus features of the new Al CD. But lets be honest with one another, they were put on there to encourage people to buy the CD instead of buying off iTunes or stealing off P2P. Al isn't the first, or the only artist to do this. In fact, I had such a hard time tracking down the CD (I had to go 3 towns over to the only music store left around here to find it) that if it hadn't been for the added features and videos, I probably would have just bought it off iTunes. It's way too early to speculate. I'm sure Al will continue to release new songs, but pretty soon will the concept of "the album" be dead? Technology has trippled in the past three years, where will it be in 2009? As difficult as it is to swallow, record stores are starting to go out of business. How long will it be before record companies go out of business? Will there even be another Weird Al album? It's impossible to predict, it's impossible to tell, and it's impossible to even speculate. I say forget the next CD and push for a new movie.

You know, it wouldn't hurt during this down time until next touring season for Al to write up a few originals......just sayin
Nah, I also think it's way too early...but who knows, if SOL is the hit it so far appears to be, Al might get those creative pancreas juices flowing again sooner than we think

That's not nice! I'm sure their mothers knew who they were!twinkieweinersandwiches24_7 @ Sep 27 2006, 08:24 PM wrote: Definitely. Three years ago, who knew who James Blunt, Chamillionaire, or Taylor Hicks were? Pretty much no one.

I don't get the call for "more rock." There's plenty of rock/alternative on this album as it is. There's also a lot of R&B. But there's actually very little rap. Only one rap song, unless you could ISY. I think he needs to include more rap on the next album.

I'd like more rap on the next Album too, and a Radiohead style parody would be brilliant, but difficult, as they are definitely an ever-evolving band...the best artists to parody for an even better laugh are ones with very little depth as it is...*cough*FergieRihannaJustinTimberlake*cough*

But that's just from my standpoint.
Honestly, I just want SOL to get here.
