I don't think Konocti counts as Bay Area unless you're thinking of some little bay on the shore of Clear Lake. Yeah, Konocti has some drawbacks. Because even if the wind behaves and Al doesn't fall off the stage, you've still got the curfew and the fact that it's just darn hard to get there. Talk about the long and winding road.

how early is the tour schedule usually released? does it go up on the Mothership?

I was refering to the S.F. Bay Area, assuming that many of the people that attend Konocti are probably from the Bay Area. I live in the Bay Area and have caught Al at Konocti three times in the past, but if there is a Sacramento or other Bay Area show this tour I'm heading there instead. Like you said, it is hard to get to Kelseyville.

I guess it all depends on how HUGE you consider the SF Bay Area to be. I grew up in Santa Rosa, and we didn't think of it then as being Bay Area. Kelseyville, of course, is further north than SR.

Yes, all confirmed dates are first announced over on the official site.

As far as when, there doesn't really seem to be a definite answer. If I'm following the really old threads correctly, the first batch of announced dates for the "Poodle Hat Tour" came in early March 2003, and that tour started in the middle of that June. IIRC, on one leg of the tour one of the last dates for the year was also among the first to be announced, so it can be really random.

If I understand the booking process correctly, Al's agent has to first solicit Al to local promoters before concert offers can be fielded. So, the time when tour dates start to be announced will probably depend on whenever Al's reps begin to "sell" the new tour, and at the moment they're still listing information for the "Poodle Hat Tour."

I wasn't at that show, but Alamom (whose real name is, same as mine, also Linda Ward) was, and Al fell off a substantially raised stage in the middle of a song. He yelled out "drum solo" while he tried to recover himself and limped back onstage. Many people apparently thought it was part of the show, but he was injured and a bit shaken up. He ended up apologizing later during the show for what he perceived as the lack of the energy.

It was written up in an old issue of Midnight Star.

Nope, Al actually fought for live vocals on the show. They talk about that during one of the commentaries (I believe it was the one for the "Mining Accident" episode).

yeah, the only lip-syncing [i'm pretty sure] was in The Mining Accident, when Al and the miners sing Al's song about cheese. They start off actually singing, but when they stand in a line and sing some 12-part harmonies, that's all Al, and Steve singing the bass part

unless you count 'Promises Promises' were the little kid lip-syncs Al's lines
