I'd say this is pretty major, as the song has been mentioned in the newest issue of "Rolling Stone." It's issue #1003, the June 29 issue with Eddie Vedder on the cover.

It's in the magazine's "Random Notes" section as part of a blurb about James Blunt, right underneath a picture of James with girlfriend Petra Němcová.

Here is the text of the mention, punctuation errors and all:
Rolling Stone wrote: Another sign that it's Blunt's world: His "You're Beautiful" has been the recipient of a "Weird" Al Yankovic parody, titled "You're Pitiful."

There was no mention of either the download or the problem with Atlantic forcing it off the album.

Hmmm...that's a major mention, but I sure wish they'd have at least told people where to download it. Oh well. At least more people will be aware that the song exists.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

There are currently 52 replies to the AOL article. Lots of folks thanking Al for doing the parody, and at least 3 people setting the record straight. The publicity this song is getting is great!

I just read the Random Notes thing. At least Al got a mention, but, like Kevbo said, it would have been nice if they had mentioned where to download the song.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

I'm puzzled about the lack of a mention about the download, too. The only guess I can make is that maybe by the time the issue went to press there was no word yet that the song was pulled from the album, so mentioning it as a download might have felt unnecessary to them.

Or of course maybe they just didn't care enough to mention it anyway.

Or maybe Rolling Stone didn't want to step on Atlantic's toes either. There's probably a lot of reciprocal back-scratching that goes on there.

Somebody rescue me from these runaway corporeal metaphors! :o
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

I'm not being condescending, I'm too busy thinking about far more important things you wouldn't understand.

My favorite part of that page is the section in which they define the term "game of fetch".

Cool. This isn't really worth linking to, but on Fark, it seems that "You're Beautiful" woke some kid out of a coma, and so half of the Farkers are linking to "You're Pitiful" for the other half to enjoy, so that should spread the news.
