Dang. I'd think there were at least 50,000 Al fans out there who would get themselves a copy. How do you find out the stats for record sales?

I thought it was 500,000 for a CD, not 50,000...

You're right. An album needs to sell 500,000 copies to go Gold and 1,000,000 copies to go Platinum.

And of course, these figures are for the United States only. The requirements are different in other countries.

I will defend Tuck by saying that a dvd only needs to sell 50,000 copies to go gold. Maybe that's what he was thinking of.

One way is to go to RIAA for the official list of what has gone Gold and what has gone Platinum. They don't give you specific sales figures though.

Well, the US population is closer to 300 million, which would mean that it would take about one in every 600 people to buy a copy to make it go gold...which isn't that easy to do.

I mean ... ONE out of 600! I guess it just feels like there would be at least one out of every 600 people who is an Al fan. Enough so that they'd buy the record.

Well, just think, if you buy two copies of an album, you're doing the work of another 600 people, at very little trouble and expense to yourself (relatively speaking). Such a deal!

I played the MP3 of You're Pitiful softly in the office again today, and a coworker (who hadn't been around when I first shared it) said, "That's funny; it almost sounds like "You're pitiful!"

Another testimony to Al's ability to mimic an original.
