You're right. An album needs to sell 500,000 copies to go Gold and 1,000,000 copies to go Platinum.Al's #27 fan @ Jun 22 2006, 11:04 AM wrote: I thought it was 500,000 for a CD, not 50,000...
And of course, these figures are for the United States only. The requirements are different in other countries.

Oops, yep. That is what I was thinking. Thanks!algonacchick @ Jun 22 2006, 05:31 PM wrote: I will defend Tuck by saying that a dvd only needs to sell 50,000 copies to go gold. Maybe that's what he was thinking of.

Still, I'm sure that out of however many billion people in the United States, I figure at least 500,000 of 'em are Al fans!

Well, the US population is closer to 300 million, which would mean that it would take about one in every 600 people to buy a copy to make it go gold...which isn't that easy to do.
I'm ranking every Beatles song on my new pop culture blog. Check it out!

Well, just think, if you buy two copies of an album, you're doing the work of another 600 people, at very little trouble and expense to yourself (relatively speaking). Such a deal!
I played the MP3 of You're Pitiful softly in the office again today, and a coworker (who hadn't been around when I first shared it) said, "That's funny; it almost sounds like "You're pitiful!"
Another testimony to Al's ability to mimic an original.

"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.
