I did manage to go visit Bob's, and Jim and Hui (or maybe Hui and Jim) were great. I'm always surprised at how much variety there is in Hawaiian music. Besides his usual array, Jim was playing steel guitar (the one that you hold flat in your lap). Two hours of music that were like taking a tropical vacation... and the omelet was pretty darn good too.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

I'm so glad you were able to go and see Jim, OE. I really enjoy his music. Glad to hear your omlette was good, too. It's always nice when everything is good, isn't it?

4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

Any Jim West from “Weird” Al’s Band any fans located Gold Coast or nearby, Jim will be doing an official “solo” first Australian performance at Wallaby Hotel located Mudgeeraba Tuesday night March 20, 2007. 8.00pm, one night only. No cover charge, entry free (must be over 18). Organised by Santa Strohfeldt, Gold Coast.

My deepest apology for such short notice. The confirmation has been delayed until today.

There's already a topic for this, so I expect it will be merged, but I just wanted to tell the Aussies that Jim is well worth hearing solo. His Hawaiian slack key songs are magical.

I don't suppose he'll do a solo show while he's in Melbourne?
