I don't think my awareness of him goes back quite that far. I didn't live where Dr. D was being played, or I'm sure I would have listened regularly. But I do remember Another One Rides The Bus. Though I couldn't tell you how. I don't know if I knew it from hearing it on radio? I also saw Al on the Tom Snyder show. My strongest memory of that show was the velvet pants, the bare feet (when did he stop performing barefooted?) and the guy doing the trained seal thing with the horn and the accordion case. So when I saw the video for Eat It, I knew who Weird Al was. I just had no idea he was the same guy on Tom Snyder. Or what he looked like.
I really don't know why it took me so many years to "discover" him. I always liked him.
