The Joe Franklin Song

I was just wondering, is this a parody of something? Or a style parody? And, uh, who is he?

It's an original. His name is Joe Franklin and he's the host of a talk show called (appropriately) "The Joe Franklin Show" which has been on since like 1950.

And, pardon me for sounding stupid again, but what does the part about the gun refer to exactly?

"Hey Joe, where you goin with that gun of your hand?"

It's a line from a Jimi Hendrix song called "Hey Joe." And yep, that's the same song, and same line actually, that Al sings in "Polkas On 45."

That's why I was wondering if it was a parody, specifically of that song. But now that I think about it, why would Jimi Hendrix write a song in this style?

I just heard this song and was wondering when Al wrote/performed it. I know that the Joe Franklin show was on for a very long time. The reference to "Hey Joe" makes me assume that it was sometime in the 80's, but I'm not sure.

I don't know when it was performed. Dave? mewrio, I think Al just used that line from the Hendrix tune because the guys name is Joe. Just kinda random. "Hey Joe" wasn't really a doo-wop tune. I think Al just had fun with this. Loved the back-up singing on this one.

It was performed in 1986, I believe.

(Incidentally, The Joe Franklin Show is no longer on the air... no wonder, after what Joe Franklin did to Sarah Silverman.....
