I'm unsure about this one, gang.CatraDhtem @ Sep 4 2004, 03:08 PM wrote: We probably have a while to wait, but it is being reported that Al will be featured in next year's "Fairly OddParents Movie."
For some reason, news of the movie is being used in the marketing hype for the "Fairly OddParents" 2005 wall calendar, so who knows what we'll really end up with.
But still, it looks like Al will add yet another animated persona to his credit.
This is one of the listings for the Fairly OddParents {FOP} 2005 calendar that you're talking about, right, Greg? They've also been selling them on eBay too.
The listing for the calendar notes that
The Fairly OddParents 2005 Wall Calendar. Hit cartoon series grabbed the #5 position on the Nielsens basic cable TV ratings list, seen in 2.73 million homes on average during August 2003.
Fairly OddParents first theatrical release is scheduled for 2005
Features guest voice-overs from leading celebrities, including Jackie Mason, Gilbert Gottfried, and Weird Al Yankovic
Notice that the copy does NOT distinguish if Al was already on the TV show or if he is SCHEDULED to appear in the FOP movie.
Now, ultra-Yiddish Jackie Mason guest-starred in an episode of FOP already. He was the Sandman in the "Beddy Bye" episode of FOP [Episode Number 33; first aired May 23, 2003]. And ultra-nasal Gilbert Gottfried has appeared several times as Doctor Bender, the evil dentist who lives down the street from Timmy and is obsessed with perfect teeth. But Al??
In the horribly incorrect TV Tome listing for Al, it claims he was the voice of Goose Goose. One listing has this character in an episode called "Giant" -- and that episode doesn't EXIST. Another listing says that the Goose Goose character is in the FOP episode entitled "House of Revenge / No Rules" -- and THAT episode doesn't exist either. Yet another site listed Al in an FOP episode called "That's Life" with Al reportedly playing the character of Eddie the Gerbil. Now, that FOP episode DOES exist; I taped the episode off Nickelodeon just in case -- but that voice is actually credited in the closing credits to veteran voice actor Carlos Alazraqui.
My fear is that these calendar guys just grabbed info off the internet from TV Tome -- warts and all -- and accepted it as gospel. Hence, another Al myth persists!! Besides, if Al HAD done voices in the upcoming FOP movie, wouldn't Jon have already posted it at wa.com??
This may very well be just another rumor.
Oh, by the way, I had noticed another interesting Al connection for FOP -- Gary LeRoi Gray, who played Bobby the Inquisitive Boy on The Weird Al Show, has done the voice of Timmy Turner's friend A.J. since episode #27 [Is that ironic?? How about that the episode first aired on January 27, 2003???].
Now THAT's what I call "WEIRD"!

Actually, that seems to make it more likely that Al's in it to me. If they're listing people who have already done voices on the show, it's likely that they're correct and those peoples characters are returning. But that's just how it seems to me.

I definitely agree that there should be some kind of caveat to all this, but I am inclined to believe it as much as that Al is involved in some kind of FOP project simply because this is the marketing text used for an official FOP product, which means that somewhere along the way it had to have been approved by Nickelodeon.Dr_Dad @ Sep 17 2004, 01:00 AM wrote: Notice that the copy does NOT distinguish if Al was already on the TV show or if he is SCHEDULED to appear in the FOP movie.
Even if it was written by either a Nickelodeon marketing person or someone who works for the calendar company's own marketing department, I would hope upon hope that they would be professional enough to not just rely on a user-manipulated site like TV Tome. I think it's fairly known that the site simply isn't reliable when it comes to cold hard facts.
But anyway, as I said, Nickelodeon as the licensor would had to have looked at the text at some point. And one would think Nickelodeon wouldn't simply connect someone to one of their projects on a whim.
And the reason I am going to believe that it is for the movie and not just a FOP episode is because the movie has been in pre-production for a little while now, and it seems like when there is a Nicktoons movie in the works, production on the episodes stop so the same crew can work on the movie (SpongeBob, for example).
Very good point, but couldn't it be possible that Al is merely signed on at this point and hasn't actually gone into the recording studio yet? Considering there isn't even an official title for the movie at the moment might be a clue as to how far along production is before voices are recorded, so it may be a while before it's considered newsworthy enough for the site.Besides, if Al HAD done voices in the upcoming FOP movie, wouldn't Jon have already posted it at wa.com??
Also, it may be possible that information on the movie wasn't even supposed to be released this early, but the calendar folks jumped the gun.
I'm not saying you're definitely wrong on any of this, as this could very well be some huge marketing error...I'm just explaining why it could still be correct despite the understandable suspiciousness of the info.

TVTome is practically always wrong, but if it's on an official calender it's probably true.
