Why Do Teens Like Al?

I'm a high school intern at the Rapid City Journal, and I'm writing a short article on why teenagers like Al's music for when he comes here August 16. Granted, it's liked by adults too, but I'm trying to focus on the fact that they choose it over what's marketed to them. I've tried talking to kids in the area, and I'm not getting much, so I figured there would be more of an eloquent, and in depth response on this board because everyone is such a big fan.

Er, no, it's not school though. The Rapid City Journal (www.rapidcityjournal.com) is who I work for, which is the town's local newspaper. I don't know if that changes anything about where this should be posted.

I like it because it's funny. Al has a sense of humor, which most of today's music lacks.

I like Al because for many reasons. His music is funny, he's an extremely positive role model, a very nice guy, and he's very down-to-earth. I have gotten some grief from other people my age, but I ignore it. Why should I conform and idolize people that I don't respect? I respect Al. I respect the fact that he's not like most celebrities. The fact is that he's one of the most normal celebrities in Hollywood.

Back to the music. Al's music is really funny, and I like things that are funny. Also, his music doesn't have any profanities, which I respect a lot. He realizes that you don't need profanity to be funny. He doesn't take cheap shots, and he never exploits others for his humor. These are also reasons why he is a positive role model. He doesn't do drugs, and he doesn't go around claiming that doing drugs is cool. He's so unlike a lot of Hollywood.

Not only does Al make hilarious music, he's an artist that I'm not afraid to listen to in front of my parents and he's an excellent role model, and probably the only musician who, from what I know of their personal life, seems like a totally respectable person.

I like Al, because hes funny, and hes a great guy to look up to, unlike other poopular music people today. Also, not only teens like him. I read on the Mothership that he has fans ranging from about 5 to 85 years old.
