Well- I saw some Fanatics blooper tapes on Vh1 or MTV a couple years ago....they were showing tapes of people that didn't make it. One was a tape of someone talking about Al....this kid that wanted to get an Al tattoo. What an original idea.... Anyway- They did made the poor kid look pretty crazy, since they only showed a very small portion of his tape...

Aww, that's too bad. :( If he was fairly young, maybe he didn't know about Dave. Of course, I'm sure there are others who have Al tattoos as well, just feeling kinda sorry for the kid. I just hope this show doesn't do that to whoever does send a tape. I may reconsider even shooting one now.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

That's why I never enter things like that. By sending in a tape, you are making it their property. You are more or less "signing a release" that says that not only can, in this case, the network do whatever it wants with the video, but also that you can't take action against them if they put you in a negative light.

Now, I'm not saying that's what's going on here, but I'm personally not going to take that chance. I don't need a half hour program to justify my love or appreciation of something...after all, that's what the web is for.

Sounds interesting, but I probably won't enter. Not only am I too lazy :P , but I really can't compare myself to people like Fred or Dave, who are more dedicated to Al than I am. With that, I'd doubt I win.

Anyway, what would I say? "Hi, I'm James, and I'm the biggest Al fan because I've been to four concerts, have Al's autograph, and most of his CDs." Am I a big Al fan compared to most people? Yeah. But by no means am I obssessed with him in the way some others are.

The thing with these contests is what defines "the biggest fan"? Collection, amount of concerts, knowledge, what? If I knew, then I could adjust accordingly and lie. :P

And that's the thing. It becomes less about emotions and more about physical evidence. They want the people with tattoos or Al-themed cars or who have named their baby girl "Bermuda." These shows want the spectacle, something to laugh at, something to prompt an audience member to say "Boy, what a loser."

It's just exploitation is all, and I could really care less which specific qualities VH1 (of all companies) thinks make one a "fan."

Although the winner of Rock the House didn't seem "crazy." In fact, his baby boy was named James, IIRC. :D

Still, I wouldn't want my house remodeled like that. No offense, but would you want to live with that the rest of your life? Well, I would still like to have Al come to my house and sign my wall...

But I get your point, and I agree 100%. I feel fandom ranges from person to person. Dave maybe be the biggest collector of Al merchandise aside from Bermuda, while Fred is the most dedicated tour chaser we know. And let's not forget WHiZZi and RWDW are the biggest Al fans from the Netherlands, and Seva's the biggest Al fan from Russia. You can't compare them straight up and hope to come to a conclusion.

I'll be happy for the winner, but I just don't see myself investing time into such a project.

Actually, "Bermuda" would be kind of a pretty name for a baby girl. It's no weirder than a girl being named India, which is getting to be a bit trendy.

And Bermuda-the-drummer seems to be shaping into a pretty reasonable kind of honorary uncle, so it's all good. :D
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

I wouldn't enter because while I consider myself obsessed, there are certainly people who are more obsessed. I also agree with Greg that it is too risky. I am a bit suspicious of VH1's motives here.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

Once again, Kevbo, you're right on the money.
