Ah, ok. I have a tape with several concerts on it, and I wasn't really sure.

Anyway, that was another instacne of Al previewing a song before it was released.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

I agree with Pete Man. I definitely think the number going down had to do with this song. True, Al would most likely not release it, if the artist denied permission. But, what if the "record company" denied permission. Blunt might have told Al he could release it, while his "record company" denied permission. As the problem with releasing the album was due to "record company politics". This would be my best guess.

Who knows? This could be a blessing in disguise. We have an extra song, and most likely there will a more up-to-date parody on the new album.

But, I must say, either way, this is an awesome song. It still amazes me, how Al can copy any style, any song, any artist perfectly. Great song.

That's true. That might be the case. Maybe Al saw this song leaving popularity by the time the new album was eventually released. I also am hoping for a more up-to-date parody on the new album thanks to this surprise release. :9~

He has always respected the artist's wishes his whole career and I don't think he would start to make an execption now.

And also, IF Al had gone through all this, recorded it and everything, and didn't get permission, AND still wanted to release it he would get money for it being on the album. But, as I said, it would still cramp his "way of doing things" and so he wouldn't bother releasing the song. Good theory, but I doubt it went down like that.
Since you put it that way, the alternate speculation people have had is starting to make sense -- a royalty issue. The Queen did not allow any British song to be spoofed by an American :P

No, really, if Blunt was asking too high of royalties for the song, Al may have decided that releasing the song on his CD would be unprofitable and, instead, decided to release it for free.

I don't think it matters if this song is on the next CD -- we all have it anyway. The first thing I'll probably do when I get the CD is load all the songs on my computer for backup -- You're Pitiful is already there :)
This means something. This is important.

Jon's topic is about the fact that it's on weirdal.com--this topic is about the song itself. Don't let your jealousy that I'm going to win Best Mod get in the way of rational thinking. :P

That's my guess too. If James Blunt wanted the song out there but his record company didn't, perhaps James let Al release the song for free and gave up on his royalties to get the song out there--I can't imagine that Al would have recorded it if he hadn't had James's permission in the first place.

Luckily for me, by the time I got to my home computer the mirrors were up. It still took a little while, but the wait was definitely worth it! What a great way to get everybody hyped up for the album release. Great song Al & TBITB!

Just got an email from weirdal.com updates.... I wonder if they dropped this song from album, because before it had said 11 songs, now it says only 10???

Dear Close, Personal Friend Of Al,

We're very sorry that the new "Weird Al" Yankovic album is taking a little longer than expected to make its way to a record store near you. We'll let you know as soon as we have a confirmed release date.

In the meantime, we thought you might like to download a free mp3 of a brand new Weird Al song (which won't be on the album). Our gift to you, just for being so darn cool.

You can download the mp3 at www.weirdal.com. Hope you enjoy it!
