while I do wish there was a whole video for "Fridge."

After the first time I saw the Fridge clip, I said that and I keep saying there should've been a whole video for it.

Well, it's certainly amazing to see how this thread progressed in just fourteen hours.

But yes, I agree with spacedingo. "Lousy Haircut" would actually make a cool hidden bonus track on a compilation or boxed set.

Personally, I think it's a funny concept but I feel like (other than visually) it was poorly executed. I mean, when you compare the two songs ("firestarter" and "lousy haircut"), you'll find that the singing style is just way too different (like "firestarter" was sang with more of a punk style where "lousy haircut" almost sounds more like a talking heads-ish thing). And then the little sounds in the music sound completely different than the original. I do think it's cool, thought, that he tackled a techno rock thing. I don't know. I guess I'm just glad that he left it as a minute long visual joke instead of an album track. That's all.

I think the changes in the music itself were due to something Al talked about in the DVD commentary for that episode, where they couldn't make the song a true-blue parody because they couldn't get permission from enough songwriters of "Firestarter" (I think Al said that legally they needed at least half of the composers to sign off on it), so they had to more approximate the sound of the song rather than directly parody it...which I guess means the song falls into some no-man's land between "normal parody" and "style parody."

And IIRC, the music in "Lousy Haircut" was actually composed by Jim!

You know, I hadn't noticed it before but it does sound very Talking Heads-ish. That makes it even cooler in my opinion. 8) I do agree with your last statement though.
