While visiting a trumpeting website tonight, I learned that Warren Luening, who performed many of the trumpet parts on Al's albums, passed away on March 18, 2012. The 'Players' listing for him on Al's website can be found at (http://www.weirdal.com/players.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).
"Warren Luening - trumpet
Polka medley magic on IN 3-D, DARE TO BE STUPID, POLKA PARTY!, UHF, OFF THE DEEP END, ALAPALOOZA, BAD HAIR DAY, RUNNING WITH SCISSORS, POODLE HAT, STRAIGHT OUTTA LYNWOOD and ALPOCALYPSE. Warren added other trumpet parts as needed on "Spy Hard", "The Weird Al Show Theme" and notably on "Toothless People.""
Warren was a first call musician in Los Angeles and performed for many television show and films. A tribute to Warren may be found at http://news.allaboutjazz.com/news.php?id=95560" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
R.I.P Warren . . . . . .

Wow, most impressive. RIP, Warren.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:
"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11
So awesome!

No one in the world ever gets what they want and the truth is we don't know anything.

R.I.P. This is definitely going to impact the polka medleys, like Kevbo said. It's gonna be odd not hearing his trumpet work anymore..
