I don't care what Kris Allen is up to...I signed up for the Weird Al newsletter, not the Kris Allen newsletter!

Why is everyone overreacting to that? It was clearly a smurf up, as the email says "you got this because you are suscribed to the Weird Al list", it doesn't send "WE SOLD YOUR EMAIL AND NOW YOU ARE SUBSCRIBED TO A MILLION OTHER MAILING LISTS MWAHAHAHA". Clearly the email was meant for the Kris Allen mailing list, and some marketing dude sent it to the wrong list. As honest mistake as you sending your mom an email meant to your girlfriend. Except multiplied by thousands.

Now that you mention it I could see how a marketing person possibly grabbed the wrong list. I had not thought of that before.

Alejandra was right; it was a mistake made by Sony Music. I just got an email from the Weird Al mailing list, apologizing for the error. It says:

Sony Music is in the midst of transitioning to a new email service provider. Due to this switch over, an email meant for Kris Allen’s list was mistakenly sent to Weird Al’s list. We understand how valuable you are as a loyal member of Weird Al’s email list. By no means was this an intentional act and we offer our deepest apologies.
