Make The Rock Hall Weird

Post by CatraDhtem »

For the benefit of the mods (and at the subtle suggestion of one from a little while ago), I'm starting a new thread to discuss projects, ideas, and general chit-chat for the Rock Hall campaign.

This first post will hopefully serve as a first-stop sort of post to catch up on all the immediate, vital info, like current campaign drives and projects, so ideally it will be edited quite frequently (a la the Tourography).

Just continue campaign discussion here like normal. For newbies to the thread, all you need to know right off the bat is below.

The basic facts and current activities:

WHAT
Make the Rock Hall "Weird" is the grassroots fan campaign to get Al inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his career as the genre's most successful satirist.

WHAT TO DO
1. Sign the online petition. For every 500 signatures it receives, a tree will be planted in a part of the world that sorely needs it. Sign it and pass it along to every single person that you know...it couldn't be any simpler!

(please use the following URL for forwarding purposes)

http://www.allthingsyank.com/petition

2. Send a copy of "The Essential 'Weird Al' Yankovic" to specific members of the Rock Hall's nominating committee.

Please request a member to me privately so we can arrange your mailing.

Full list of members here: http://www.allthingsyank.com/rockhall/spatula.htm

3. Write to the Rock Hall Foundation and urge them to induct Al:

Ok, just to be redundant, I'm posting yet again to say I voted in the Plain Dealer poll, because my old post was lost in the great forum glitch.

Vote Al!
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

Due to the recent rift in the space time continuum, I just wanted to briefly sum up (again) the current activity for the Rock Hall campaign.

Every year, the "Plain Dealer" here in Cleveland, as in the Rock Hall museum's hometown paper, holds an unofficial readers poll to find out which artist the public wants to see get inducted. All of the current nominees are listed, and there is usually also a "write in" space on the ballot. That is where we come in.

We need to stuff the ballots with write-in votes for Al. Our past similar efforts even got mentions in the paper in 2003 and 2007 (in which Al won the write-in vote by a "landslide").

Just go here to vote for Al:

http://www.cleveland.com/rockhall/survey_2009

Just vote once and be honest with your information, but also be sure to pass along the URL to anyone you can think of.

Voting is open to everyone and anyone, not just Northeast Ohio residents. If you're overseas, just fill in the information as accurately as you can but leave the state as "OH," even if you need to write for your city: "London, England, UK," for example.

The poll is usually tied to a contest that the paper holds, usually for a free two-week subscription or something equally boring, so just select "No" for the "can we contact you?" question.

The last day to vote is October 10. If you'd like, please post a response in the thread so I can get an idea of how many have voted.

Let's win one for Al!

Just a final heads up that today is the last day to vote in the "Plain Dealer's" Rock Hall readers poll (link above), so if you're waiting until the last minute...oh, you know the rest.

Our call for write-in candidates generated outpourings of support for "Weird Al" Yankovic, Kiss and the Moody Blues, among others.

I'll post a little more about this in my blog later tonight, but for right now, to everyone who participated, THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS! :)

Awesome.

Greg, I've always paid attention to who was inducted into the Hall of Fame and used to think getting Al in there was just a pipe dream. Thanks for all your work on this project. I now think there's a sporting chance. :Y

Leonard, I appreciate the heads up, but this thread isn't really for posting every inconsequential thing that happens on that web site, especially since they really have no interest in promoting the campaign or furthering the cause. It's just a bit of a stretch is all I'm saying.

As for the campaign itself, a major technical delay aside, I'll soon be ready to announce this year's big campaign project. It will hopefully be fun and get everyone's creative juices flowing.

In the meantime, I'll soon have a major question to pose to everyone regarding the documentary and will have a major research project I want everyone to be involved in!
