Maybe this has been going on at the same frequency for awhile and I'm only noticing them because of Al's recent popularity, but seems like I'm seeing more parodies of songs in TV ads. Just saw one parodying Foreigner's "Hot Blooded" ("Hot Pockets"), and one for Wendy's spoofing the Mr. Big song "Be With You" (now a love song about "being with" their new pretzel buns).
I realize such a thing isn't entirely new (remember Kraft changing the EMF song "Unbelievable" to "Crumb-believable" for their cheese crumbles product?), but I wonder if we'll see more of this kind of thing with Al's resurgence. (I kinda hope not.)

Re: Commercial Parodies
Don't forget the Wendy's ad that changes Eric Carmen's "All By Myself" -
"When I was young, I never needed any bun, and having lunch was just for fun, those days are gone". The rest of the song remains the same. I wonder how much the original artists are getting paid for having their songs butchered like this? I guess I should be grateful I missed the Kraft cheese crumbles ad. Seriously?? Make it stop!

Oh, you must see the Kraft ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFjctVBg6K8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Stephen Colbert rightfully jumped all over this ad when it came out and mockingly used it as the theme song for his "American Pop Culture: It's Crumb-believable" segments.

Re: Commercial Parodies
There's also those Fiber One bar commercials where they parody "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Take My Breath Away."

Oh that Kraft cheese ad was horrid. The singing sounded off. Not that EMF were great or anything, either, but...blargh.

Re: Commercial Parodies
Hadn't seen the Fiber One ads, but that reminds me that Master Card had one parodying "Total Eclipse of the Heart" a few years ago. . .and actually got Bonnie Tyler to SING it!
PS: It's bad.

True story: The "Crumb-believable" song from the craft ad was, in fact, EMF.
