I'm good with "Al's Army" (or crew/ gang etc) and "Al-Pals" not the others. I object to "Al-Gals" and (.. ew Jon..) "Yankochicks" on principle No need to be gender specific, it seems dismissive to me. ( "chick" is a super offensive way to refer to a woman.) Agree any association to addiction is in poor taste also

Like anything offensive, it's very subjective. But it always has been considered a crude slang word. For example, Chico Marx from the Marx Brothers nickname comes from his habit of "chasing the chickens", which was a pretty shady thing back then (Well, it still is, but there's a difference between liking girls and being a flirt and being a creepy perv).

These days, you won't find chick registering very high on the "Why I never" meter, but like anything else, it depends on who you ask.

I'm sure it's just water off the back to say, someone like AlgonacCHICK.

Babe is another one that doesn't go over well in select company. For more information on this, consult your local dvd copy of the movie Barb Wire (Or don't, because it's a horrible movie)

Babe is commonly used where I live, girls use it for girls, they use it for boys, and boys use it for both girls and boys too as a term of affection. Never heard it considered offensive before.
