Why is that weird? The image is part of pop culture.
Oh, it absolutely is, just like the images on the MF album. It's weird to me because that image in particular and that general style of Communist art have circulated so widely in American culture that they seem to have gotten divorced from its revolutionary and propagandistic content. (It's also weird because Communism has largely lost its power as a boogey man in American political life, but imagine Yankovic dressing as a Red Chinese or Soviet leader and channeling the Socialist Realist thing at the start of his career!)
I agree with GJustisLaw that it's a send-up, and it's interesting to me that that picture is now so far removed that a famous parodist can reference the image and everyone instantly gets it. To me, I think he's showing how we use and reuse images and separate them from their original contexts. We have all these historical images floating around on an even footing with new ones, all divorced from their original time and place.
It seems to symbolize everything bizarre about contemporary life—I mean, what's odder or more appropriate than a professional parodist creating shirts that imitate a revolutionary leader on a tour supporting an album that includes (among other things) a parody of a song that rips off an existing song?
My guess is that he is referring to "Word Crimes", because of the whole lawsuit brought forth by Marvin Gaye's children involving the original song ("Blurred Lines") sounding too much like "Got To Give It Up" (thus potentially "ripping it off").
"Then you had Muppets and Hispanics and William Shatner."

We ate dinner tonight at the same place the VIP was being held. I kind of caught the tail end of them tearing stuff down so there wasn't too much still up, and my camera battery died almost immediately after I started taking pictures, but the stuff I did see was pretty neat. If you look closely at the "stamps" on the case in the first picture, you'll see they say 27 cents. The picture collages, there were several of them, with images from 1959 through 2015.
If anyone happens to see this in the next couple hours... I need your opinion. I've talked about this before, before I realized that you were supposed to just get the poster signed, I bought Mandatory Fun on record for him to sign. I saw a few people, early on, saying they talked Al into signing something else, but I would feel awkward, and I just resigned that I would just get the poster.
But now the day is here, and family is telling me, "You paid $260, and THEN bought the album a second time! You should be able to get it signed!" ... I really wanna try, but I also don't wanna be awkward, and I also don't want Al to sign it because he feels like he has to. What do you guys think? Have you guys had more experience with you/others trying to get something else signed?

I haven't attended any of his concerts yet, so I haven't meet him, but I don't think he'd "feel like he has to" sign some more stuff. But I also wouldn't take advantage of the situation. I mean, if you got one or maybe two more items, I don't think he'll have any problem with that, but if you want more than that, I guess it could be rather annoying, as there will be more people with the Czar pass.
Anyway, good luck!

Thanks! (I don't care about the poster, I'd ask for it to be signed INSTEAD of it )
