Re: Foil
It's the "l" that does it. People tend to pronounce the "oi" in "android" as one syllable but the "oi" in "foil" as two. It affects other diphthongs too. "Loud" is one syllable, but "foul" is often two. Same goes for "paid" and "sail."

This reminds of me of my college linguistics course and the difference between "prescriptivists" and "descriptivists." I'm the latter.AlejandraDD wrote:Dunno man, I take dictionary.com very seriously, and it says one syllable with no alternate pronunciation

Oh man, I wish I'd thought of that 8 posts before you.JEDM wrote:More silly speculation: What are the odds that this might be "Roar" by Katy Perry?
Also I pronounce royal, foil and roar all as one syllable. And I'm like super smart so...

Until there's absolute confirmation on what the subjects are, every possibility is fair game.

Because that one can still go either way. We don't have any compelling evidence for either.TMBJon wrote:Says the guy who said "the only correct answer is 'I'm not sure'", regarding Handy/Tacky!!Bruce the Duck wrote:Guys, come on. It's "Royals".

Re: Foil
A small handful of Al parodies where the lyrics/titles don't necessarily rhyme 100% with the original song...
I Want a New Duck/Drug
The Safety Dance/The Brady Bunch
Bad/Fat
Stand/Spam
Give It Away/Yabba Dabba Do
Gangsta's/Amish Paradise
Do I Make You Proud/Do I Creep You Out
Perform/Born This Way

Re: Foil
Well, "Bad" and "Fat" rhyme because "D" is the voiced form of "T".
But regardless, Bermuda said the song subjects would be obvious. "The Brady Bunch" for "The Safety Dance" wouldn't have been obvious. But...oh, come on! It's "Royals."
