I have a family member who is very similar to the narrator in this song. I had to be barraged by Facebook posts from her after she ran into a Major League baseball player at a restaurant. Of course, she characterized their random encounter as "having dinner" with that player.

That's the joke.

One thing I love; I didn't find the Kevin Bacon line particularly funny, I thought it was boring and rather repetitive until I realized that it's a take-off of the whole Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon phenomenon. Very very well done.

When I was listening to it the first time, after the third "guy," I just knew it was going to be a Kevin Bacon joke. Perfect!

I got what Al was doing fairly quickly into the line, still loved it though.

Not only that, but Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is itself a riff on the real theory of Six Degrees of Separation, which suggests that a chain of "a friend of a friend" statements can be made to connect any two people in the world in a maximum of six steps. The guy in the song is six degrees from Kevin Bacon just like everyone else in the world, so his "claim to fame" is particularly lame.

That is really exciting news! I'm assuming this was the one filmed in MC Lars' apartment (didn't someone say Dr. Demento was there?).
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

This song is glorious. My wife was almost in tears when she heard the opening guitar and immediately knew who he was going for here (she avoids ALL spoilers). I really hope SCOTS gains a few new fans because of this. Anyway, they were flattered as well. From their Facebook page:

Attention all skidders!
Holy cow, whoda thunk it, but "Weird Al" Yankovic has done a "style parody" of SCOTS!! The song is Lame Claim to Fame on his new Mandatory Fun LP & to our ears, it's a little bit Camel Walk, a little Dirt Track Date, and a whole lotta fun! It's a great song & we couldn't be more honored. And word has it that there might be an accompanying video released some time this week!! Keep a sharp eye here http://www.weirdal.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandatory_Fun" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
