Gift for Nina???

Post by Pattimash »

Does anyone out there think it's possible that Al would accept a gift (unwrapped) from a front-row fan for his baby? I was thinking of getting something small for her, i.e. a picture frame, or small toy and 'attempt' to hand it to him sometime during the show. I was just thinking that he will be away from her an awful lot this summer and being a mom myself, I know that's gonna be tough for him. I thought a baby frame to put one of her little pictures in while he travels would be a cute idea...

yeah? no? what do you all think?

I"m taking my daughter (11yrs old) with (she can't wait!) so she wants to make this little poster for him....

I seriously doubt that Suzanne and the baby will be accompying him on this tour.

During the show?

I can see a flying tackle from one of the stage hands in your future... I wouldn't suggest doing that. I don't think it's allowed, I don't think Al would appreciate it, and quite frankly it could get you escorted from the building. Not to mention the fact that it could cause safety/tripping issues for Al. Nope. Not a good idea, in my opinion.

The poster your daughter wants to give him would be cool, but I'd talk to someone official about either giving it to Al, or asking if she can give it to him herself. But NOT during the show...

I don't know about gifts for Nina. I had considered it, but I don't know. If she were my child if I would I want to have tons of stuff given to her? I don't think so.

That's why I was thinking of trying to get a gift for Bela. I couldn't find anyting suitable, but that would have been the way I would have gone. I settled for a nice shirt for Al.

If you have your heart set on giving something to Nina, perhaps mailing it to CPFOA, but keep in mind she will probably be considerably older when the Yankovics finally see it. Oh, and another option... Suzanne has a wish list over at Amazon.com. There are several books that she has chosen, if you purchased one from Amazon it would probably get right to them.

NO NO NO!!!

What, do you think I'm crazy?

I am not sure how the venue is set up this time, having never been there before, but the first time I saw him in the front row I was able to touch him he was so close. It's not like I'm gonna whip the thing onstage or something...geez. Its a picture frame, ya know, possibly some glass involved... I was either going to hand it to him or someone that remotely looks like someone that would give it up to him later.

I'm not a nut, I'm not irresponsible, and I quite frankly am offended at the tone of that response. Where exactly did I say I was gonna throw it on the stage?????

Although, thanks for the heads up on the Amazon.com wishlist. Didn't know about that, may end up with that route instead.

Geez, I don't know what made me think that. Oh, I remember now. It was your post...

What. The "attempt" part? Uh, he tends to be ... well... quite busy onstage. ya know? And I didn't plan on distracting him or anything. Lord Almighty....

No. The "hand it to him during the show" part, led me to believe you wanted to actually hand it to him during the show. :sarcasm:

And I wasn't suggesting that you were gonna throw it onstage. But assuming you could put it in Al's hand, what's he supposed to do with it then? As you pointed out he's kinda busy. So he sets it down. The way he flies and spins around he could end up breaking his neck if there was something on the stage that shouldn't be there.

I didn't mean to upset you, but I was just reacting to what you wrote... :eh:

Generally, attempting to hand something to ANY performer on stage during the show is a bad idea.

Your best bet would be to send it to CPFOA. Last tour Al got a lot of gifts that just clutter up the bus. Sending it to CPFOA will save Al the hassle of sending it back to LA.

I think an exception might be for edibles. :D Ruben would be happy to take those off your hands for you.

Actually, I'm leaning toward the Amazon.com wish-list idea... how do you know it's really them? I'm sure their shipping address is protected. I went to the site and saw something that interested me, but I'm not sure how that all works. I also saw a wish-list for an Al Yankovic. But it was all electronics and strange stuff. Don't you think he could buy all that himself if he really wanted it? So that leads me to wonder if the Suzanne Yankovic on there is really her. I'm guessin' it probably is, but hey, there are goofballs in this country lookin' for a free gift. you know?

Who found out about that and how? Did someone reputable tell them or was it a "search and find --wo hoo!" situation.... just wondering.

I think the best thing to do re:gifts for Al (Nina or Suzanne) is to bring it to the show and hope Al does an autograph signing afterward. In case he doesn't (which is likely) have an accompanying note prepared and give it to someone on the crew. Skip is a good person to ask. He's usually the guy who'll say whether or not Al can do a signing.

CPFOA is good for sending notes, letters, cards, but actual gifts should have a more personal touch if at all possible.

It's not so weird giving performers gifts at the stage during the show. I've gotten notes and flowers to Elton John this way. Al doesn't do it this way, so we adapt.
