The Simpsons Take the Bowl

Post by erkman27 »

This gargantuan, exuberant Simpsons show and fireworks spectacular was truly something to behold. I have been a fan of The Simpsons for its entire run and the Bowl presented it in the most exciting way possible. Al sung a full, never-before-heard three-minute version of Homer and Marge. Besides Al, there were a multitude of other guest appearances including Conan O'Brien, Jon Lovitz, Hanz Zimmer, and of course, most of the main voice cast of the show. Thanks for sharing your pics, Eric! Makes me wish I lived in California, or had the funds to fly out there. *sigh*

CB Johnny, great footage! Thank for sharing! Again, wish I could get out to see this.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

I went to this show tonight, and it was awesome! Hank Azaria, Yeardley Smith, and Nancy Cartwright were there with lots of guests.
The clip of Brain Freeze and "he who is tired of Weird Al is tired of life" introduced Al. He played a full length version of The Ballad of Homer and Marge. Muppetboy posted the lyrics in the Simpsons TV thread, but I also posted them below. Really fun to see an all new full length parody live.
Also, something that the video of Friday night's performance did not show: tonight, he pulled out all the dance moves including the single high leg kick, boneless boy, and several new ones too!
The coolest thing is Al's accordion solo starts with the Jack and Diane riff and then transitions into the Simpsons theme song, similarly to the way Ricky ends.
:accordion: :accordion: :accordion:

Little ditty.. bout Homer and Marge
Her hair was as big, as his stomach was large
Yeah they met in school in '74
If you do the math, they're now 60 or more
Suckin' on a Squishy, outside the Kwik-E-Mart
Homers building arterial plaque in his tender teenage heart.
Homer says "Hey Marge, a lifetime of fun's about to start"
Ah, but then they got it on, and they made them a Bart.

Oh yeah, life goes on
long after the grilled cheese sandwich is gone.
Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the land of chocolate is gone.

Homer tried to jump the Springfield Gorge
Got himself in a feud with a bad neighbor named George.
Marge almost had a fling with her bowling instructor.
But she turned him down, so that guy never... kissed her.

Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the great Maude Flanders is gone.
Oh yeah, they say life goes on
I won't even reference season 10 on.

Gonna let it rock, let it roll
Here with all my nerds at the Hollywood Bowl
Hold on with two hands as long as you can
Take your son to the steel mill that's chock full of gay men.

Oh yeah, the Simpsons will go on
Long after the hu...man race is all gone.
Oh yeah, they say life goes on
You can buy my merch at weirdal.com. One Word.

Little ditty bout my favorite show
Now I guess it's time for my accordion solo....

Very nice! I especially like that Al included references to well known and relevant moments in the shows history.

BTW, did anyone notice that Maude Flanders died in Season 11?

Thanks for posting, Jon. I watched several youtube videos from Friday's show last night, and watched video of just Al's performance from last night just before I came here. Lots of fun! So glad these videos are popping up for those of us who can't go. Looking forward to hearing about tonight's show.

Here's a video from the Saturday performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72qMq4UAjFI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This one is much higher quality, the cinematography is better, there's not a drunk guy singing along, Al sings the correct lyrics. Brand new Weird Al parody! :tacky: :accordion:

That's a relief. I was hoping something better would surface. Kudos.

Yes, and the Ballad of Homer and Marge was in Season 14 :)

Considering the performance was preceded by the Brain Freeze clip from "That '90s Show" (Season 19), I wonder what percentage of the audience had never seen that scene before in their entire lives.
