They changed lifestyles. That's it. I wouldn't go any further, they do nothing the same

Al really criticized yuppies in his early songs... other good example of this are "I'll Be Mellow When I'm Dead" and "The Check's in the Mail," and the "Alligator" portion of Carnival of the Animals from Peter and the Wolf is the second Al song to make fun of Lacoste (once again, not by name). Going to college at Cal Poly like Al did, I am not surprised that they were such a common target for him.

I meant that he probably based his yuppie-bashing songs on personal experiences with yuppies in San Luis Obispo and at Cal Poly.

Also bear in mind that Al grew up in a blue-collar family in a blue-collar/bordering on 'hood city. He would have seen the pretentiousness for what it was.

Did Lynwood's economic status go downhill during/after Weird Al's childhood or was it always "'hood?"

From Wikipedia: Lynwood went through five phases of demographic change in the 20th century. First, a colonial settlement. Second, a farming small town. Third, a mostly working-class white suburb from 1940 to 1970. Fourth, a majority African-American city between 1970 and 1990, and today, a predominantly Latino community subsequent to a wave of illegal immigration across the southern border following the amnesties granted by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

Also of note, Lynwood is in the 27th Senate district

Sorry to burst this bubble, but it's actually in the 33rd district.

It could be that Lynwood was in the old 27th district, prior to the decennial redistricting process. The old districts ceased to xist after the 2012 election.
