It's an original if Al writes the music and the words. "Style parody" is a sub-genre of "original song."

It doesnt' matter if it's an 'original' song or a 'style parody.' People seem to be forgetting that the song's a good song either way. And even if it's a 'style parody', which it is, it's still an original song, based upon the fact that Al wrote both the lyrics and the music.

Just focus on the fact that it's a decent song.

i never said it wasn't a "decent song"!! i already said i love the song!!

man, posting here can be a bit trying LOL. i love you guys, i mean all al fans are the best, but seriously, i'm not calling the man a hack. i'm just referencing what he himself has said. people said it was an original song, i put in my two cents and said it was technically a style parody, and folks chewed me out for insinuating it wasn't completely original. who cares? it's one of his best songs, in my humble opinion, whether or not it's a devo style parody!

seriously.

i love you guys.

but get real.

:Y
now let me tell you what you DIDN'T win!

A cover version (or is it a quasi-karaoke version?) of DTBS.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.
