True, Anthony (I got the name right, right?).

Songs that are serious set themselves up better for a comical satire, while fun/silly songs are really tough to make fun of.

That's why Al had to wait so long for Eminem to put out something more serious before he parodied.

I think that the vocals are pretty funny for the precise reason that others don't. Because in the original it is a bunch of high-pitched girlies, Al's deep, obnoxious, croaky, almost yelling of it makes it funny. And after listening to the original again, I did hear a humorous resemblence of Cindy Lauper in those sudden squeaky gasps every now and then.

That's a good point, Anth. It is hard to parody an already humorous song. That's probably why Al didn't go for any of Eminem's "lighter" hits. It's also probably why he passed on such hits as "Baby Got Back," "I'm Too Sexy," and "Who Let the Dogs Out." In fact, the goofiness of "Grils Just Want To Have Fun" is probably why Al didn't want to parody it in the first place.

Gee, why didn't I think of that... Oh wait, I did.
Scottidog astutely observed MUCH earlier wrote: It's more likely that the reason he really didn't want to do it in the first place is that he knew it wouldn't support a great parody.  He's got a pretty good feel for these things.

Scottidog, please forgive me. I know we're supposed to commit every single word you utter to our permanent memories. That one must have slipped past me. It won't happen again.

And besides, Grils just wanna have fun was one of the original parody ideas he had.

I thought it was "Grills Just Wanna Cook Lunch."
