I'm not one to be negative, but I have to say this: Toothless People is the worst Weird Al song there is. When I first heard this song, I thought it was a bad original. The topic of the song is completely boring and uninteresting. I couldn't imagine what Weird Al was thinking.

Later, I discovered that this song was NOT an original, and in fact a parody of "Ruthless People" by Mick Jagger, a song I had never heard. I coudn't imagine how bad the original must be. Since then, I had a desire to hear "Ruthless People". I was able to get the "Ruthless People" soundtrack from Amazon for cheap. Let me tell you, Mick's song is no better, and in fact may be worse.

Well, that's about all I have to say about Toothless People. What made Al think that fans would be interested in a song about Tooth-deficient people is beyond me. I'm just glad that out of all the songs he has recorded, this is the only one I loathe.

What do you think of the song?

I love this song just because so many people hate it.

I've always liked it. Never heard the original and don't really care to, but I think it's amusing enough. Al has done a lot worse.

I just wish they would correct that missing first beat already. <_<

I just cracks me up.

Well Al did think that Ruthless People would be a much bigger song than it was, since it was a movie theme song, and with it being Mick Jagger, but it just didnt work out. I think maybe if the original had been bigger, this one may seem better. As as far as my own feelings, this was one of my favorites when I got the album, but I probably haven't listened to it in 10 years.

This was one of those "last minute" songs that Al needed to fill the album. He knew that "Ruthless People" was coming out and he was betting on the movie and the title song being hits. Unfortunately, the movie was only moderately successful, but ultimately forgettable, and the song went nowhere.

It's no surprise that the Jagger original didn't succeed. The song is really slow and almost depressing to listen to. But I think Al did as best as he could with it. I wish he would have found a better target song and a better topic for the parody, but oh well. I still think there are far worse parodies that Al has released, including "Girls Just Want To Have Lunch" and "Syndicated Inc."

Interesting bit of trivia, BTW: Three of the four parodies on "Polka Party!" were based on songs written for movies.

That is a very interesting reason to like a song, disregarding quality and things like that.
