Another thing about the song is that it really captures an 80s sound. Al and the guys do the 80s thang really well.

Johnny Carson has died of emphysema. He was 79. :(

And while, yes I realize this song is about Ed McMahon, Johnny Carson was the "Johnny" in the title.

Further Johnny/Al connections: Al appeared on "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson" performing "Yoda" and "Hooked On Polkas." And in concerts, you can see Johnny introducing Al in the "Are you ready for Weird Al..." video clip.

I wasn't old enough to watch him. But I've heard of him and he sounded like a funny guy. He'll be missed! :(

I watched Johnny Carson since I was very little and sometimes I could even make it up to watch Letterman. I have also watched Short Circuit about six million times. So, when Here's Johnny came out I was totally in to the song.

I am not fond of Leno either. Letterman should have got the hot seat. Carson though so too, and I have heard that Carson worked as a writer in the background for Letterman after his retirent.

Rest in Peace, Johnny.

I remember as a kid pretending to be asleep most nights, but in reality, I laid in my bed and listened as closely as I could to "The Tonight Show" with Johnny being played in my parents room. As I got older, I would make a point of catching his show every chance I could, and in my teen years remember watching him followed by Letterman. Late nights were so awesome back then.

Johnny ... you'll be missed. Give a big hello to Jack Benny, Bob Hope and George Burns for me. Thanks for the awesome memories.

Actually, the news about Johnny writing jokes for Dave just came out a few days ago. Apparently, it's something he's been doing until very recently.

A fitting tribute, no?
