Sales figures?

Postby Udvarnoky » Wed Aug 13, 2014 4:00 pm

Polka Party! and UHF have a reputation for being Al's only real commercial disappointments, but all we know for sure is that they've sold less than 500k due to never going gold. I was thinking - if you combined the fact that the record industry at large is circling the drain and the fact that Polka Party! has had near 30 years to slowly accrue sales - isn't it possible that this album could have pushed more units than Alpocalypse and Mandatory Fun to date?

I've always been very curious to know specific sales numbers.

Its possible they are both already gold qualified. I want to say it was last year Al did an interview and said hasnt had an accounting of sales figures in a while. Its not like they are constantly adding up totals, especially for 25 year old albums

Oh wow. Poodle Hat was the only one I've seen asserted to be Gold eligible, would they only order another audit.

Is that process for the Yankovic side to initiate?

I don't know, and I wonder if it will be harder to get that audit now that Al has left the label. He has certainly been the victim of some voodoo bookkeeping over the years.

I would assume this is up to the record company to initiate, and thus we may never know.
I do think Polka Party has probably gone gold at this point, but I would be surprised if UHF Soundtrack has. Don't forget it was out of print for a good ten years or so.

I bet if he re-released them in a package; they would both fly off the shelves like hot cakes.

COULD be Gold certified at this point. Funny thing is I don't know about anyone else on here, but I NEVER once saw "Polka Party" in a CD store such as F.Y.E., Barnes & Noble, (or even places like Sam Goody or Circuit City years back). I remember when I became a huge Al fan and slowly started buying all of his albums, this one and UHF were the ones I had to order online.

When I was seven I bought mine at a CD Store, but it's hard to remember, I think it was CD Warehouse, a local chain that used to exist around here. Lost my original CD and had to re-purchase it online a few years back. Would certainly never find a new copy in a CD store around here anymore.
What a racket they're makin', Jack, they keep me up at night playin' their electric guitars!!
