I heard the movie first and saw on a website that it was only 17 seconds in length so I wasn't surprised.

I was very shocked when I first heard the song because I also thought something was wrong with the disc. I felt dumb when I realized the song was only that long. I love all 17 seconds of it though!

So, who was caught off guard the first time they heard this? I got the album when it was first released and it was one of my first CDs EVER. So since I didn't have a whole lot of experience with CDs, I fell for the gag right away. I immediately thought to go to the store and ask for a replacement.
But then, I looked at the liner notes and saw that there were no lyrics listed for the song, so I knew it must have been intentional. I think the gag would have worked better if they included complete, phony lyrics in the liner notes. Then, everyone would really think there was a mistake on the disc and they'd run out to the stores and demand replacement copies only to find that their replacement had the exact same mistake on it!
What was so startling about it?

You know that "rrpppppppr" sound at the end?

I wonder if that was inspired by Al's college radio days, when he would start his show off with a needle being ripped off of Debbie Boone records....or if he got fed up with the song himself

The funny thing is that when that song came out CDs were relatively a new product, so the gag worked. But now the gag doesn't work so well because we all know that CDs don't make that kind of sound.

I love the rip. That's one of the best turntable rips I have in my arsonal (which comes in handy for people like me who like to mix music).
