I thought TS needed its own topic after almost 12 years, so, well, here it is. I've always thought it was kind of a predescesor to Jerry Springer. I'm still kind of mad that the show by the same name didn't use this as the theme, even though they asked Al themselves to write it specifically for that.

Talk Soup was a commissioned piece? I never knew that!

Well, I'm pretty sure, at least. :lookaround: I thought I read in the Ask Al that the producers of Talk Soup asked him to write a theme for the show, they told him that they "loved it", but they never used it. Go figure.

you are correct
from Midnight Star "Ask Al" Q&As for September, 1995
I read that "Talk Soup" was going to be the new theme song for the E! Channel's show of the same name. How come they never used it yet? (Laurie Webber)

Well, to put it bluntly, they kind of jerked me around. The producers of the show approached me, asking me to do a new theme song for the show. I wrote the lyrics (which they approved) and then recorded the song (which they said they "loved"). And then they never used it. Go figure.

It's okay, Patti. People are allowed to know things that I don't know.

But I'm pretty sure Talk Soup wasn't written during a summer heat spell. Rubber underwear! Yecch!

I normally hear all of Al's lyrics clearly, but this song has one bit I'm not sure about. At the end of the song after the last "Listen to me", does he say "Me" or "E!"?

I'm pretty sure it's "E!" (which makes sense given the history of the song) I just gave it a listen and couldn't really hear an "m" sound anywhere.
