Didn't Dave mention somewhere where you can hear a millisecond of Boddy Holly? Eh, either way... what's the point? It's barely a second worth of the song.

yeah, um... I wonder why he didn't play it with "Buddy Holly" still intact on the Bad Hair Tour (since he plays other songs he "couldn't" record). I went to that show and I remember him not playing the "Buddy Holly" part. I think that would've been pretty neat, but, you know... whatev. Oh, yeah... Alternative Polka is the best!

Well, in this case, he didn't out of respect for Weezer, who told Al not to include the song in the Polka medley. Al does ask permission from the bands whose songs he uses for that. Besides, it wasn't included on the record, so why would he include it in concert?

I do like the Alternative Polka.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

well, i wasn't ever really sure if his concert-only songs were songs he wasn't "allowed" to record or if he just chose not to record them and only play them live.

Concert onlys are songs that he did not get permission to record,*and are usually parodies* or that are just too short to stand on their own. The shorter ones tend to get thrown into the Medley. Anyway, I think the consensus here is, we would love to have heard The Alternative Polka with Buddy Holly included. Maybe what Dave mentioned could come to light, and we'll hear it someday.

yeah, someday that would be cool. (maybe he'll include it in a 3-cd and 1-dvd boxed set of b-sides and bootleg recordings like nirvana did with "with the lights out")... *hoping*

I think the main reason they didn't play "Buddy Holly" in concert was because " The Alternative Polka" was backed by a video. Al would have had to edit the sped up "Buddy Holly" clip into the video. Not worth his trouble.

Here is an already-existing "Alternative Polka" thread. And you should probably just be putting these polka things in Fan Creativity somewhere.
taste is only something if it is yours.
