Callin' In Sick style parody of Nirvana's Lithium?

Post by the_sickness101 »

The drum beat is EXACTLY the same.

Song structure and guitar riff are very very alike.

Can anybody assure me?

IS Calln' In Sick a style parody of Nirvana?

it could be interpreted as a general grunge style parody but im not sure thatd encompass Metallica anyway. im pretty sure in an Ask Al somewhere this was confirmed as Nirvana, but wouldn't Nirvana say they drew influence from Metallica?

It's definitely, to me, the later period Nirvana. Especially the "Heeeeeyyyyyyy" part. Yeah, Metallica influenced Nirvana, but both have a sound of their own.

they do sound similar. Lithium has a longer intro and Callin' in Sick basically has no intro. drumming is the same. i never noticed how similar both of them were

Callin' in sick today - parody of what ?

Post by rk4n3 »

Hi all, sorry if this has been asked/answered before.
I couldn't find anything on it from search or FAQ...

I'm aware that "Callin' In Sick Today" is a "style parody"
of Nirvana, but there's a distinct similarity of the chorus
to a particular song from the 80's ... especially the lead-in
phrase right before the chorus, and the slight key change
of the chorus itself, into the very chord progression from
the parodied song.

I just can't remember what song it is ! I've been scouring
my memory and even song archives, but I can't figure it
out - does anyone know the song I'm thinking of ? I think
it might have been a Duran Duran song, or maybe some
Simon LeBon solo project song or something like that.

Thanks in advance...
