Re: Question about "Bob"

All the palindromes he used were available on palindromelist.com way before the song came out.

That's a great find. And it's got some really funny comments too.
Oddly, the last thing I was watching before I surfed on over here was a clip of a Bob Dylan interview that somebody had played backward in an attempt to prove that Dylan sold his soul to the devil.

All I have to say is... you know

In regards to Bob

Post by EmperorCalebtine »

On all the Al related sites I've seen, they seem to say the Dylan style parody is a direct homage to Subterranean Homesick Blues, but to me it is much more closely arrangement wise to Bob Dylan's 115th Dream. But then again, the songs on Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited have a lot of similar arrangements.

Of course I know will probably be crucified for bringing up a topic that has probably been covered beyond the point of death, but what the H? I have to establish some sort of prescence on these forums in some way. Everyone I've ever known IRL seems to loathe Al and his music. It saddens me.

Yeah you're right, Bob does sound a lot more like 115th Dream. I think the video is throwing them off. The truth is I think Bob is supposed to just generally sound like "your average Bob Dylan song" rather than one in particular.

I think what they meant to say was that just the video was an homage to "Subterranean Homesick Blues".

This song has taken on such a deep significance for me now and become such a huge thing in my life I cant even type this without tears

Two days before my father died he became very agitated and asked us to "say things that are the same forward and backward" and I said "palindromes?" and he said "YES"
No idea why really, he seemed to be looking to put things in order, grouping objects together, and words and stuff.. perhaps the only control he still had on the world around him

Obviously, I know "BOB" by heart

He was SO happy to hear me repeat the words to him that he told me to write them all down for him to look at. He made the rest of my family chant them all aloud while he tried to follow along. I dont think he had ever heard the song, but my family were BLOWN AWAY I knew so many palindromes.
He had us singing and reciting poetry and playing word games with him as he struggled to stay focused and not drift.

Al and the band have always been so kind to me and Al, Suzanne and the guys were aware of the tough time I had been going through since my Dad was diagnosed. It was the strangest coincidence that Dad fixed on palindromes, and it still kind of weirds me out a bit that this happened

Who knew that my Al-Fandom would provide such a valuable contribution to my dad's last two days with us? Very VERY strange.
I feel very strongly that Al was "there for me" at a time of great trial.
The lyrics of Bob were the very last words my father ever read...

Thank you Al
