I may just be extremeley dense, but what is so funny about being an idiot genious in france? Is it some kind of reference? I just don't get it at all.

An idiot genius in france? Well, being a genius in france means that french people are stupid (especially the way al puts it), but what is the idiot part from?

well, what he's saying is that even though he is incredibly stupid and untalented (which we know he's not), he is still a "genius in france". Because the french are stupid.

Actually, I belive that the song is not refering to the intelligence of the french as much as their sense of humor. One of the most popular thing for people to make fun of the french for is their love of Jerry Lewis. Lots of people in America call Jerry Lewis stupid, a freak, and other things similar to what Al calls himself in the song. This means that he could be calling himself that, and not calling the French stupid. But that is just a guess.

I assumed he's a Genius In France because Zappa has a song called "In France".

I don't know how many other countries Zappa sings about, but that's my thought.
