Yes, thanks for the linkage! I was not a mega fan back then so seeing things like this is coolness.

Would you say that Al has Yugoslavian hands like the woman in this song? He is half-Yugoslavian... I mean Serbian, or Croatian, or Bosnian or Montenegroan... wait, does anyone actually know what city in the former Yugoslavia Al's paternal grandparents were from and which country it's located in now? That would at the very least help with some Wikipedia categorization.

Best guess is Serbian. Hey, it's a wiki, somebody with better information can correct it later.

The documents that I have found just say Yugoslavia.. Matthew immigrated (possibly) in 1902 but Yugoslavia didnt exist then (formed in 1918) it was all different states under the aegis of the Austro-Hungarian Empire , the things that say Yugoslavia are from the 1920s and 1930s. Al has said his folks were from Serbia so unless something else turns up we just have to go with that for now. Matthew married Mary, née Brau who was also said to have been born in Yugoslavia. Other records say she was Croatian

I think it was Frankie Yankovic who originated in Croatia

Maybe the mods would like to split this bit off into a new thread? It's a fascinating topic especially if more info arises, but please nothing on persons currently living.
