That's true with all of Al's parodies. Which is why I cant understand how some people can love Al more than any other artist without having any exposure to the source material.

Alright, now that the new album is out (Or almost out, I should say) and now that I've heard it, I can safely say that I was dissapointed with Poodle Hat. Ack, I never thought I'd say that about a Weird Al album, but for me, it was just not my style. It had too many songs related to older musicians, and whereas I loved Albequerque, I hated Genius In France. I just didn't "get it", or maybe it was the Zappa style of music. Anyways, I'm glad this album was more modern. On to the review:

1. White and Nerdy - I like this song a lot, it's one of my favourites on the album, and I'm sure the video will make it even better. I'm not a fan of the original, or rap in general, so I'm always pleasantly surprised when I can enjoy a Weird Al rap/hip hop song.

2. Pancreas - I'm not familliar with Brian Wilson, although I know some Beach Boys and although I don't listen to that type of music, I don't object to it either. This song is pretty good, but I'm not sure if it's actually a song I would listen to regularily, or just end up skipping.

3. Canadian Idiot - Great song, I was hoping for Al to parody Green Day so much, since they're my 2nd favourite band, especially after the amazing album that was American Idiot. I thought he would parody BOBD or Holiday or something, which also would have been great, but in the end I'm glad he chose American Idiot, because it's hard to come by faster/harder songs by Al. Great job, although very obvious title. Being Canadian myself, I sometimes sang the song with Canadian replacing American in my head. But his parody was spot on, like usual. I can't believe some of the Canadians on this board seemed put out of place by the name, get real.

4. I'll Sue Ya - I like this song a lot too, another harder style song by Al, yay me! Although it's a RATM style parody, it reminds me of Kid Rock as well, and I think it just works well.

5. Polkarama - I actually liked the Polka.... so don't shoot me! My only complaint, as with most polkas, is that it was too short. But I enjoyed it, and didn't have many of the same complaints as everyone else seems to. Now I have enough polkas to make a polka CD out of!

6. Virus Alert - I didn't think that I was going ot like this song by the title, I pictured a song with sirens and annoying sound effects, and what I got was totally different. The sound of the song reminds me of one of Al's earlier songs, and I can't put my finger on it... Anyone have the same feeling, that it sounds like one of Al's older songs...? Any suggestions as to what the song could be would be appreciated.

7. Confessions, Part III - I'm surprised I liked this song too, since I don't like this style of music, but of course Al makes it more than just the music. Catchy song, although slower.

8. Weasel Stomping Day - Me likey! And I love the weasal sound effects too. I think some people on this forum are a little too sensitive when it comes to certain issues, and Weird Al songs. I don't support animal abuse either, but it's a SONG. A funny song at that, and the noises are to make it over the top. It's something a 7 year old would laugh at, and then want a weasal for a pet, not squash its guts out. Can't wait to see it on Robot Chicken.

9. Close But No Cigar - The beginning of this song reminds me of song done by a band called Eve 6, but the rest of the song feels like classic rock, and also reminds me of an old Al song. I think it's pretty good, although there's not anything in particular that stands out about it.

10. Do I Creep You Out? - Although I feel American Idol is a joke, and don't watch it myself, and have never heard of Taylor Hicks until now, I liked the song, and it feels like some older Al love song originals. I like it, but I'm not a fan of the live cheering ending.

11. Trapped In The Drive Thru - I love this song, and the ending is awesome. I hope Al keeps up the 10+min song tradition started with Albequerque.

12. Don't Download This Song - Meh... I this is the weakest of the originals I feel, and if it's not this one, it's Pancreas. I just didn't care for it that much, even though it's a mockery of those charity songs. It almost feels like "eBay" in the fact that it feels 5 years too late. I know in Ask Al he defended it by saying that illegal file sharing is still going on, which is true, but it's not a hot topic. In either case, eBay was a good parody, and this is a good song in it's own merit, just not something I'd listen to much.

13. You're Pitiful - I know this isn't from the album per se, but it was supposed to be and it's how I burnt my CD, with this as song 13. (Yes, I'll be buying the CD - The US version actually, since Canada got the crap end of the stick. Any US citizens willing to pick it up for me if I mail out the cash? Anyways.) As for this song, it's a good parody, but just too slow for me to listen to. My girlfriend who hates Weird Al (Trust me, lots of fights about it) has listened to it twice, so I'm thankful it exists.

So having that all been said, I like this album more than Poodle Hat, with my favourite songs from that album being Couch Potato, A Complicated Song, Hardware Store and of course the polka. The worst songs from that album are Genius In France, Bob, Wanna B Ur Lovr, and almost the rest of the album. Anyways, onto another topic, it seems that everybody is so worried that Al might swear, or show a cartoon boob in a music video that he had nothing to do with, or make a song with innuendo worse than Wanna B Ur Lovr, and I don't quite understand that. Sure some of you might have children who listen to Al, but when I was reading the Canadian Idiot post, about the worry about Al dropping the "F-Bomb" during Canadian Idiot, I just had to roll my eyes. What are the worst words Al has ever said? He said 'slut' in Gump, he said 'skank' in Confessions, and there's a censored 'B****' in Jerry Springer. Since when would Al ever say an "F-Bomb"? He always edits his songs and keeps them peachy keen.

Sigh anyways, I just think that this forum in sometimes was too politically correct and censored for it's own good. Anyways, not to troll or anything, I just it's just built up over a couple years of watching the boards. Anyways, hope everyone else liked the album too.

Bobby

PS: I noticed a few people not understanding some of the Canadian Idiot refrences, if anyne would like me to explain them all out, I could. I'm from Canada and understood them all. Wow, I don't feel important.

The F bomb misunderstanding was referring to the lyrics of the original song, not Al's song, so don't worry about that ;)

That's not all - don't forget the "bastard" controversy, and some people objected to "porn" in Virus Alert.

Although, personally, I think the "nigga" debate about Polkarama was groundless... that's about the most un-Al thing possible. Especially since the rest of the songs in various polkas were censored ("Closer", for instance).

I never understood any of those...

1. Bastard isn't that much of a swear word as it is just another insult.

2. Al has already said "porn" in the Jerry Springer song and besides, that's not a swear either.

3. As for the Polkarama thing... people just need to use their common sense.
