Not a bad idea actually, but I'm thinking it might be more along the lines of the daily doses of fear fed to us by the media. I'm pretty sure this will be a computer song for two reasons:
1. Virus has taken on such a strong meaning as a computer bug that you hardly EVER hear it refering to a physical ailment anymore
2. Alert is another computer "hot-term", ESPECIALLY used by virus scanners. The combination of the two words, although both have other meanings, lends itself to a very "computer-esque" feel.

I agree with Ryan, it's pretty much a slam dunk that this will be a computer related song.
My guess is it has to do with opening emails or virus hoaxes that have spread by email, like the ones you find listed with a red dot here:

i think he'll actually mention some real viruses- like the (older, but it was huge) Hi virus that invaded MS Outlook.... and more that people will recognize.
