I'd say he is a great bassist, whether he's playing novelty music or not.

I didn't say that. I just wanted people to think outside the novelty music box. He's pretty far up there, even when he's not playing novelty music. I will agree that he's novelty music's greatest bassist, I just didn't like how you pigeon-holed him, like that's all he does.

Not pigeon-holing Steve, just saying he IS novelty music's greatest bassist. Didn't say a word about where he ranks outside of that genre.

Well, ok, but it just hit me wrong. Didn't mean to come down on you. It just sounded odd.
