Very interesting, indeed. I wonder what kind of song he could do about ringtones. It doesn't seem like a topic that's very conducive to a comedy song, IMO. Then again, Al has made many songs about subject matter that doesn't seem particularly funny, but he's made it very funny. I expect him to do the same.

Or at least something in the more electronic/synthesized realm of things. Or maybe something more "new-wave" like the Killers.

My second wild guess is a mixture of a bunch of styles. And my third but less likely wild guess is that it's an extension of his Cellphones song.

There is also the possibility of Al making this a rap song, but I think rap dominates the charts enough that he'll most likely leave rap to specific parodies and keep the originals to other genres.

I guess it depends on what one thinks when they think "ringtone". Do you think of something electronic or MIDI based or do you think of a short audio snippet of a soundbite or popular song?

It's none of these. It was described to me as an original Weird Al song, not done in any particular style. We might find a genre once we hear it, but my source would have told me if it was rap or techno.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the main joke of this song is that it sounds like it's supposed to be used as a ringtone.

Yeah I have a feeling this song is going to have that meta aspect to it, sort of like how Don't Download This Song was offered online for free. I am sure you'll be able to buy this as a ringtone on weirdal.com or other places.
