It makes sense in an instant gratification way, but long-term he's going to have a hell of a time promoting the album because assuming he does the typical 12-track release, we'll have heard at least half of the album ahead of time (WYL + four originals + whatever the lead parody is). There's no question that everyone on WOWAY is going to be excited for it--but will the anticipation be nearly as strong as it was for SOL? I doubt it. And I'm sure that some fans will make it less of a priority purchase because they already have a large percentage of it.

I can understand doing it with parodies--but is anyone going to buy any of the originals that "leak" that wouldn't be buying the album anyway? Maybe a few Doors fans will get "Craigslist" or something I guess. Ultimately I can't blame Al because it results in the same people buying the same stuff twice so woohoo, extra money. But I think everyone has to admit that he's totally going about this in the wrong way. He should concentrate on parodies, which are the only tracks of his that really permeate the mainstream, and he can't just rely on word-of-mouth, especially when the songs aren't of W&N quality.

I think the Internet Leaks should've have only been parodies. I thought that was the whole point of releasing songs in advance. It was so that the parodies would be of current songs such as WYL.

Well he did say that he could release songs quicker, so his parodies could be more timely, but he never said that it would be just for parodies. As far as not promoting them, thats his perogative, The last two albums have been totally leaked before their release, which could have cost Al money. This could be his way of controlling those leaks and making a little money in the process. Yes, people will download illegally, but he will make some money. And yes it will be double dipping on his part, but when the album comes out, how many of us are going to buy it regardless?

Oh I will definitely buy when it comes out but I'm not sure if the general public will.

Ahh but those people might not have bought an album anyway, if they only liked one or two songs

Al said that he wanted to do something special for this album like he did with Straight Outta Lynwood.

That's enough to convince me to buy the album... there's also, the pictures on the booklet.

Al said he might include the songs' source tracks with this album.

That's enough to get me to buy it and pay extra.

I can't post threads yet, I have posted much if at all. But I'm listening to SKIPPER DAN right now, is this a parody of something or is it original?
